Giving Back to Our Community

Community Involvement

We are proud of the community we live in and are members of several area Chambers of Commerce, including Tompkins, Trumansburg and Watkins Glen. Each year we manage:

Night of Champions

A highly anticipated end-of-school-year event for many athletes, coaches, and their families. As a proud sponsor of the event, along with Guthrie and Visions Federal Credit Union and many other community businesses, we recognize the best athletes and coaches in each varsity sport in a 15-school area, including Candor, Dryden Groton, Ithaca, Lansing Marathon, Moravia, Newark Valley, Newfield, Odessa Montour, Southern Cayuga, Spencer-Van Etten, Trumansburg, Union Springs, Watkins Glen.

Scholarships awarded during the event include designating two outstanding coaches with a $500 scholarship each, which they then award to one of their deserving athletes (one male, one female); and a number of $1,000 scholarships awarded to those recognized as Outstanding Male & Female Scholar Athletes.

Pints with a Purpose

We partner with Wagner Valley Brewing with their special seasonal beers offered at various area locations, including Ithaca Coffee Company, Red’s Place, and Wagner Valley Brewing. For every pint sold, $1 goes to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier. We’ve had as much fun naming the seasonals as we have tasted them, such as the “BTL Double Header IPA” and “BTL Smash Double IPA.” BTL is the acronym for our award-winning radio show Between the Lines. Over $2,500 has been raised through this limited brew offering in the summer and provides beneficial awareness of the Food Bank’s impact in our area.

Fueling Excellence

ESPN Ithaca and Cayuga Health recognize our high-performing high school male and female athletes of the week. We select from the highest performers each week and interview the student-athletes, including our infamous “Fast Five Questions.” Each student receives some great swag, and we donate $50 to the school’s booster in the athlete’s name. More than $4,000 is donated each year to the 15 area booster clubs so they can put the money where it will serve the most value. Over $36,000 as of Spring 2022 has been donated to area booster clubs. For these outstanding athletes, it’s not just a game; it’s a commitment. This dedication and commitment are why Cayuga Health continues to pledge support to ESPN Ithaca’s Fueling Excellence Athletes of the Week.
